I’m Addicted to Mario Kart Wii

Mario Kart Wii ┬áis pos-O-tivley the most gaming fun I’ve had in a long time.

Each player drives a kart (or bike) around 32 goofy tracks while picking up items to attack their 11 opponents with. The object is to drive like a lunatic, while avoiding obstacles, in an attempt to take the lead without getting hit yourself.

And the kewlest part? Multiple players can play online against people from all over the world. That’s 24/7 non-stop racing action!

The game comes with a steering wheel shell that the WiiMote fits into and it is amazingly accurate. I prefer the WiiMote by itself, but serious gamers will probably want to use the Nun-chuck with it, since it adds better drifting capabilities.

It took me about two months of solid play, both offline and on, to get fairly decent at it. I’ve unlocked all but two of the 25 available characters, and I’m just two mirror races away from an overall one-star rating.

The game is easy to pick up for players of any age or skill level. Beating your opponents seems to require two parts skill and one part luck. (And sometimes it’s two parts luck and one part skill.)

The only thing I can fault at this point is that the track theme music and the character voices get old quickly. Unfortunately you can’t turn the audio off or you’ll lose your incoming attack warnings.

With that being said, there’s enough challenge in this game to keep you busy into next spring.
