More Rain

We’re supposed to get another 1″ to 2″ of rain this afternoon and flood warnings have been issued.

Damn. Just when the garden is dry enough to walk on again.

We have blossoms on the squash and cukes, dime sized tomatoes hanging on the vines and tiny peppers on the Jalapeno plants.

At this point, an inch of rain would be problematic. Two inches of rain would be disastrous.

I said that in my best Elmer Fudd voice.

This has been one of the wettest springs I can remember. The garden looked like a swimming pool last week and it’s still too wet to walk on.

Between the rain and the rabbits, the peas are toast. The rabbits chomped the beans too, but they’re making a nice comeback.

I’ve now added fencing to our impossibly long to-do list.

When you can’t play outside because the ground is so wet it will suck the shoes right off your feet, you have to find other ways to occupy yourself.

plarn_bagOver the years I’ve purchased approximately 7,291 reusable canvas shopping bags and inevitably discover at the check out counter that I’ve either left them a) at home or b) in the trunk of the car. And so began my quest to find a use for all of the plastic grocery bags we’d accumulated.bag

That’s how I discovered plarn, which led to the inspiration I needed to blow the dust off of my crochet hooks… plarn bags.

To be honest, making the plarn is a repetitive and time consuming PITA (you can find the instructions online), but once you have enough of it made, the bags work up quickly.

And not a single person has guessed that they’re made from recycled plastic. They’re supple, durable, waterproof, eco-friendly and totally kewl.
